Can anyone tell me the diameter of the aluminium bar that people use to spread the load for the shroud "u" bolts. I assume that I will need about 6" of it per shroud?
That should be about right. We've got a 15cm stainless rod under the gunwhale on Solid Silver. Might be overkill but you definately need something or part of the boat will detach when its windy.
We use 5" of solid alloy semicircular bar, so the flat is at the bottom. Dia is 3/4" but I have a feeling that this varies between the new sandwich boats and the older Paul Wright ones.
511 is starting to look like a boat again, altho my appointment with the paint sprayers (found a vehicle body shop who will spray the beast for £2-300) keeps being put back, this time because I have to rebuild the foredeck - the bits I cut out won't go back without it being obvious. Still I will know my SP160 from my West by the time I am done.
